Charge separation and surface reconstruction: A [Mn.sup.2+] doping study
Article Abstract:
The hydrothermal synthesis of Mn doped anatase (Ti[O.sub.2]) nanoparticles, which uses scrolled nanotubes of Ti[O.sub.2] and Mn[Cl.sub.2] as the starting materials, is presented. The results have indicated that while doping of the bulk region contributes to magnetic properties, doping of the surface region has played a major role in the primary events of charge separation and can be used for tuning the charge separation processes in nanoparticles.

Complex and charge transfer between Ti[O.sub.2] pyrroloquinoline quinone
Article Abstract:
The coupling of pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) onto the Ti[O.sub.2] and the light-induced charge separation and interfacial electron transfer that extends from the PQQ-Ti[O.sub.2]/dopamine (PQQ-Ti[O.sub.2]/DA) triad are described. The results have shown that PQQ-Ti[O.sub.2]/DA triad has unique photoelectrochemical properties that promote spatial separation of photogenerated charges, holes localized at dopamine and electrons at PQQ.

Revealing the nature of trapping sites in nanocrystalline titanium dioxide by selective surface modification
Article Abstract:
The study of the effect of enediol modification of surface Ti atoms on the electronic properties of excess electrons injected by electron- beam radiolysis is described. The results suggest that the bidentate dopamine complex is more efficient for charge separation than the carboxyl complex with surface Ti atoms.
